Karla Woisnitza

Karla Woisnitza studied stage and costume design at the Dresden University of Fine Arts with Günther Hornig in the late 1970s and worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist in East Berlin from 1980. Besides Hornig, the painter Erika Stürmer-Alex is Woisnitza's most important artistic influence. In addition to her paintings, prints, drawings and collages in muted colours, she created the large fresco Seven Walls (1993-95) for the Rudolf Virchow University Hospital in Berlin. Her artistic position is marked by a longing for symbols and creates in the viewer a moment of reflection and immersion in a pictorial artistic world full of riddles and ciphers.
