Artists, Colleagues, Collectors: Carl Blechen and the Fricks
The Frick family of artists was well known in 19th century Berlin: Johann Friedrich (1774–1850) was a professor at the Akademie der Künste and a successful printmaker. His son, the painter August Frick (1814–1879), owned an outstanding collection of works by the landscape painter Carl Blechen. Paintings by Blechen as well as drawings and documents from the Frick family archive were donated to Branitz and the Akademie der Künste by Frick’s descendants. On the occasion of Carl Blechen’s 225th birthday, they will be presented to the public for the first time.
