Architecture, in particular, has been heavily affected by the financial crisis in Spain. Many publically and privately funded buildings were under construction, and yet just as many remained unfinished. After 2009 no decision had been made as to whether they were needed or not. For five weeks from 9 February, the Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz, will be host to the exhibition first shown in 2016 at the Spanish Pavilion of the Architecture Biennale in Venice, and which was awarded the Golden Lion. Contemporary architecture which has cast off the excesses of the pre-crisis era is presented, and the observer is invited to perceive it as something unfinished, which is constantly developing. Speakers contributing at the opening include Jeanine Meerapfel, President of the Akademie der Künste, Embajadora Dña, María Victoria Morera Villuendas, Ambassador for Spain in Berlin, Wilfried Wang, Deputy Director of the Architecture Section of the Akademie, Francisco Mangado, Architect, and Carlos Quintáns, Curator of the exhibition.
A half-day symposium with Spanish and German architects will directly follow the exhibition opening on 10 February. General conditions of working practice will be the focus, in particular from the perspective of the younger generation. Namely, how it is still possible to accomplish excellent design in the face of crisis and change. Representing the Spanish viewpoint are the architecture offices Bosch. Capdeferro from Girona, TeD'A Arquitectes from Palma de Mallorca and Juan Domingo Santos/Carmen Moreno from Granada. Jan Schombara, Johanna Meyer-Grohbrügge and Sohrab Zafari are the delegates from Berlin.
Wilfried Wang will moderate the symposium; the event will be presented in English.
