KONTAKTE '19
Advance ticket sales and programme for the Third Biennial for Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art
25 – 29 September 2019, Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg
The Akademie der Künste is hosting the third edition of its International Biennal for Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art with KONTAKTE '19. The event will take place from 25 to 29 September at the Hanseatenweg location. Over five days, around 120 artists will present more than 70 works and 20 world premières, allowing audiences to experience a multifaceted spectrum of current trends in electro-acoustic music. The focus of the programme is on new productions that open into the performative and unite sound, installation, performance, choreography and theatre across disciplines, exemplified by their search for new formats of communication and participation. A wide range of concerts, sound installations, performances, artist talks and films will turn the Akademie der Künste into an experimental music laboratory and meeting place for artists and professionals, music lovers and those interested in music. KONTAKTE '19 will close this year's month of contemporary music in Berlin on a high note. The complete programme is available online at www.adk.de/kontakte19. Advance ticket sales have already begun. Admission is free for all sound installations and numerous accompanying events.
The focus of this year's festival is on initiatives based in Berlin that rely on international cooperation and exchange. These include the 2019 Progetto Positano scholarship awarded by ensemble mosaik (Friday, 27 Sept, 8 pm), a concert by Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin (KNM) with musicians from Shanghai (Thursday, 26 Sept, 8 pm) and the T.I.T.O. marathon with a line-up of 14 of the most exciting turntablists in the world today, which will mark the end of KONTAKTE '19 on the day of the Berlin marathon (Sunday, 29 Sept, 1 pm - 11 pm). The highlights will also include the première of the last part of the musical theatre trilogy Stadt Land Fluss by Daniel Kötter and Hannes Seidl and, for the first time in Germany, a new project by French object theatre artist Laurent Bigot. Other events on the programme include two scenic productions by Helmut Oehring, immersive performances by Thomas Ankersmit and Francisco López and new works by Chengbi An, Beatriz Ferreyra, Hanna Hartman, Mesías Maiguashca, Robin Minard and Caspar Johannes Walter. At the opening of the festival, Ensemble Garage will play compositions from the sphere of Feedback Studio Cologne in dialogue with contemporary compositions.
KONTAKTE '19 is a project by the Akademie der Künste and is funded by Berlin's Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
