With Sebastian Czaja (FDP), Stefan Evers (CDU), Katalin Gennburg (DIE LINKE), Antje Kapek (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN) and Raed Saleh (SPD).
Discussion chaired by Johanna Sonnenburg, urban researcher at the Center for Metropolitan Studies, and Jörn Walter, Deputy Director of the Architecture Section of the Akademie der Künste
The climate crisis and pandemic are indicative of fundamental global problems: the industrialised societies are living far beyond their means, using too many resources and polluting the atmosphere excessively. In addition, the pandemic is affecting the population very unevenly and threatens to deepen the divides within society.
Against this backdrop, the city of Berlin and the entire metropolitan region are facing major challenges in shaping a sustainable urban structure without social imbalances, in housing its population, building a sustainable infrastructure and creating modern jobs. Many tried-and-tested strategies are no longer adequate, and new methods will have to be developed in order to steer urban society on its path of transformation.
In three rounds of discussions on Monday, 30 August, the invited chairs of the parliamentary groups and politicians will be questioned about their visions, strategies and specific policies.
A joint event of the Akademie der Künste, Academy for Territorial Development (ARL Regional Group), the Berlin Chamber of Architects, the Architekten- und Ingenieurverein zu Berlin-Brandenburg (AIV), the Association of German Architects Berlin (BDA Berlin), the Bund Deutscher Innenarchitekten (bdia), the Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten (BDLA Regional Group Berlin/Brandenburg), the Deutsche Akademie für Städtebau und Landesplanung (DASL – Regional Group Berlin), the Deutscher Werkbund Berlin, the Vereinigung für Stadt-, Regional- und Landesplanung (SRL Regional Group).
