With its locations at Hanseatenweg and Pariser Platz, the Akademie der Künste is one of the exhibition venues of the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. On Friday, 10 June, the Berlin Biennale will open simultaneously at 7 pm at all exhibition venues. In addition to the Akademie der Künste, these are Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City, Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and Stasi Headquarters. The 12th Berlin Biennale “Still Present!” is dedicated to a number of issues. In what way can the arts be decolonised – from the restitution of plundered assets to an anti-colonial culture of remembrance? What role can feminist movements in the non-Western world play in the re-appropriation of history and identity? How are the climate crisis and colonialism interrelated?
At the Akademie der Künste, works are on show by Ammar Bouras, Calida Garcia Rawles, Clément Cogitore, DAAR – Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti, Dana Levy, Đào Châu Hải, Deneth Piumakshi Veda Arachchige, Dubréus Lhérisson, Elske Rosenfeld, Florian Sông Nguyễn, Forensic Architecture, Imani Jacqueline Brown, Jihan El-Tahri, Khandakar Ohida, Lamia Joreige, Mai Nguyễn-Long, Moses März, Prabhakar Kamble, Sajjad Abbas, Sammy Baloji, Susan Schuppli, Sven Johne, Taloi Halvini, Tammy Nguyen, Tejswini Narayan Sonawane, Temitayo Ogunbiyi, The School of Mutants (Boris Raux, Hamedine Kane, Lou Mo, Stéphane Verlet Bottéro, Valérie Osouf), Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn, Uriel Orlow and Yuyan Wang.
