The United States and Cuba’s agreement to normalise diplomatic relations is expected to usher in a process of social change. How do artists cope at such times? How are they affected by the unstable political situation, and how can they influence society through their work? Director Nelda Castillo, writer Elizabeth Mirabal, architect Julio César Pérez Hernández and filmmaker Fernando Pérez offer an insight into the position of the arts and artists in Cuba today. Discussion presented and chaired by Peter B. Schumann. With Jeanine Meerapfel, President of the Akademie der Künste. The Academy Discussion starts at 8pm. In the foyer from 6pm and after the debate, shorts films are being shown on the work of the participating artists.
