“Es funktioniert!” (It works!) is a German stock phrase, when answering the question whether a film is well done. But what does this actually say about the quality of a film? A few weeks ago the Akademie der Künste and the Verband der deutschen Filmkritik e. V. initiated a call for responses to the question “What constitutes quality in film?” This question is also constantly posed by institutions, filmmakers, critics and the public. The evening focuses on answers and controversial statements - complete with bold ideas and satirical interludes.
