Uncertain States "Goethe-Institut Damascus | In Exile"

Newspaper caricatures make people all over the world laugh or to stop to think. But they can also lead to legal action or even death. Caricatures are therefore a good indicator for the level of freedom of expression that exists, particularly in the Arab world.  With the help of artists from Egypt, Algeria, Syria and Palestine, the documentary As If We Were Catching a Cobra by Hala Alabdalla takes an unusual look at the development of freedom of expression in the Arab world and considers the role of caricatures in times of upheaval, a role which is not always obvious.

The next Syrian film evening in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Berlin will take place on 31 October.
