Bernar Venet
For the first time in Germany, Bernar Venet will present an evening of performances, including a re-enactment of a seminal 1968 performance at New York's Judson Church Theater, featuring poetry and marking the debut of new video and sound work.
While Venet is widely recognized for his monumental sculpture, he has a long tradition of incorporating core concepts in his work across many media: painting, poetry, film and performance. Born in 1941 in Château-Arnoux, France, Venet rose to prominence in the late Sixties through the avant-garde conceptual art scene in New York. He became instrumental in developing a radical new proposition involving the use of mathematics and scientific language, alongside artists such as On Kawara, Lawrence Weiner and Joseph Kosuth.
This special evening of performance will be preceded by an introductory lecture by the artist (in English).
