Thomas Heise: Material
Thomas Heise’s film Material opens: “You may think that history is elliptical, but it’s a heap.” It combines fragments of the radical changes in 1988-89, when another Germany still seemed possible: observations in a prison, at the theatre, at assemblies and during building evictions. Ten years later, Heise said: “It’s meant to bear witness. I know that sounds pathetic.” Alongside chronicles of his family that reflect the social dislocations of an entire century, Heise’s Heimat ist ein Raum aus Zeit again focuses on the relationships people have to history.
Heise's documentary Heimat is a Space in Time (2019) is shown on 5 Oct at 6:30 pm.
