2019 Busoni Composition Prize. Hanna Eimermacher
Since 1988 Aribert Reimann promoted young compositional talent with the Busoni Composition Prize. The 2019 laureate is the German composer Hanna Eimermacher (born 1981), who generates a vivid experience of reality through asynchronous moments between eye and ear, through embodied sounds and spatial agility. The sponsorship award goes to Hovik Sardaryan, born in Armenia in 1993. ensemble mosaik and Ensemble Apparat, directed by Enno Poppe, will present works by the two laureates as well as music by Ferruccio Busoni.
The concert will start with Hanna Eimermacher's about 30-minute work orange for 12 performers and sound gate, which was newly composed for the occasion of the award ceremony and for the open architecture of the Akademie der Künste, where visitors are already acoustically welcomed right at the front door. Then the composition by Hovik Sardaryan from 2015 Simulacres will be presented, in which different worldviews are placed in a common musical context. Finally, the compositions from the Indian Diary by Ferruccio Busoni are played. The less known compositions by Busoni testify to his interest in the tunes of indigenous cultures in North America at the beginning of the 20th century, which is a historical example of the currently discussed theme of cultural memories of First Nations.
