JUNGE AKADEMIE: Open Studios
The JUNGE AKADEMIE opens its studios in the Hansaviertel on 3 July 3 from 6 to 11 pm. Scholarship holders from the fields of architecture, music, film and media art and the Human Machine program will present works-in-progress. With performances by Huihui Cheng and Kira Xonorika, a presentation by gruppe-aja as well as a reading of a screenplay by Lisa Gertsch. At 6 pm, the artists will introduce their works in short Q&As. Performances are repeated between 6 and 11 pm.
Huihui Cheng
The composer Huihui Cheng (Section Music) presents a newly developed work interpreted by the musician Patrick Stadler. In Disrupted Reflection, the saxophone encounters its voice in various forms: as an echo, shifted, distorted. Microphones capture fragments, loudspeakers reproduce them differently. The space becomes an invisible, cracked and changing surface. The performer engages in a dialog with versions of herself – real, delayed, multiplied – and questions what is present, what is mirrored and what is imagined. For the Open Studio Huihui Cheng also collaborates with the artist Rebekka Stange.
Kira Xonorika
Kira Xonorika is an artist, writer and futurist whose work explores technoscience, sovereignty, temporality, world-making, ecology and magic. She is a fellow in the Human Machine Program. Her work explores the potential of artificial intelligence to cultivate ancestral intuition as a form of re-indigenization, reviving worlds and somatic knowledge systems, and in turn regenerating symbolic memory, spirituality and technoscience. For the Open Studio, the artist shows a spatial installation with banners as well as the video work Trickster, which deals with the recent LA fires. Kira Xonorika also shows a newly developed performance with robot dog.
gruppe-aja
The working method of the architectural collective gruppe-aja focuses on upcycling materials that come directly from the construction site, nearby streets or local industry. Building on the findings of previous architectural projects, they explore their methodology and experiment with different combinations and patterns that emerge when working exclusively with reused concrete tiles and bricks. They will present the process and results of these investigations into patterns and arrangements at the Open Studio with drawings, designs and references.
Lisa Gertsch
Film director Lisa Gertsch gives an insight into the development of her upcoming film Im ersten Licht (working title). Selected scenes from the screenplay will be read, the screenplay was written by Lisa Gertsch during her fellowship in Berlin. The film is about the love story of a couple whose son is trying to find his place in the world.
